Meals

During the conference

The area surounding the University has plenty of restaurant options, serving food of different styles and at different prices. In Brazil the usual practice for meals is the buffet by weighting where you are charged based on the amount of food you pick from a buffet (measured in grams).

Many restaurants operate with a flat fee above a certain weight and others have a menu service à la carte. A meal may go from less than BRL 30.00 in modest restaurants and above BRL 100.00 in more sophisticated venues.

Good meals can be found in the range of BRL 40.00--50.00. Drinks are typically charged apart and dessert may or may not be included.

Many restaurants charge a 10% service fee, otherwise a customary 10% may voluntarily be paid to the server.

Gaucho cuisine

For those interested in knowing more about the local tradicional food, the Gaucho steak houses are the most popular in Brazil serving the Gaucho berbecue, known as Churrasco. A few suggestions can be found here.

For a wider variety of options, this list presents the best venues in Porto Alegre. For different food styles and enjoy the sunset in Porto Alegre, Cais Embarcadero is a nice place to visit during your stay.
