[Sawara]

Sawara area prospered as a water town during the Edo period, and the townscape with merchant houses remains along the Onogawa River.  It is also famous as "a town on the map" since Tadataka Ino was adopted as a son-in-law in this place.

[Japanese sake brewery]

We will visit Aiyu sake brewery which was established in 1804 by Kanehei Tsuneshichi on the basis of the skills cultivated in Koji making.  The word Aiyu has a meaning of loving one's friends and being in harmony with each other.  After the Sake brewery tour, you can enjoy local Sake shopping.

[Kashima Jingu Shrine]

According to ancient documents, Kashima Jingu Shrine is said to have been founded in 660 BC.  Only three shrines including Kashima Jingu were called Jingu until modern period, and they are in a class of their own in terms of a long and honorable history.  There are approximately 600 Kashima Shrines in Japan now, and the Kashima Jingu Shrine is the headquarters of them.  People prayed for safety at Kashima Shrine before their departure on a journey, and this culture was developed as Kashima-dachi.
